THE SOLAR PROJECT
The Muir Foundation has been researching several potential sustainable projects that can ensure a long-term income generation for the Foundation. We are happy to announce that the Solar Panel project meets all these criteria and has officially been launched.
We need to step up in the fight to save our planet. According to the WWF, we are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet and the last one that can do anything about it. As leaders in business and education, we have an opportunity and responsibility to do something about this. And what better way than to start at our Alma Mater.
Besides the obvious environmental, infrastructural and financial benefits of going solar, the Muir Foundation has committed to ringfencing profits from this project to future bursaries for the next 20 – 25 years.
The #MuirSolar project will result in 461 solar panels being installed on the property at a total cost of R4.61m.
We are appealing to the community of Muir College to take ownership of this first project and assist in raising the funds required. We are “selling” each of the solar panels for R10 000. Keep in mind that your company could support this project through your Corporate Social Investment programme and will receive BBBEE points, as well as an 18A Tax Certificate.
We envisage that this project will be a showcase of past, present and future generations of Muirites holding hands to make a difference! Together we can accomplish so much more!
We are running a friendly competition between the past classes of the school to see who can purchase the most panels (see below for our current situation)
